How much is my case worth?

by | Jun 29, 2025 | Firm News

Have you ever consulted with an attorney who has told you what your case is worth?  Please… DON’T LISTEN!

It is impossible to know the value of a lawsuit

There are simply too many variables that are not capable of being calculated, including how credible witnesses appear, whether the judge or jury has any internal bias, or the amount of money needed to compensate for physical or emotional harm, for any attorney to tell you what your case is worth during preliminary consultations.  And even while your lawsuit is pending, it does not make sense for any attorney to put a value on your case because…

The other side may be willing to pay more

You are likely selling yourself short by listening to attorneys who try to put a value on your case, because the other side may be willing to pay more than the amount proposed by your lawyer.

Cases should normally be resolved through mediation

So how do you know how much your case is worth?  The best way to come up with an acceptable valuation for your case is through mediation.  Mediation is a process, typically one day long, in which a neutral third person (a “mediator”) is hired to help the parties reach a number to settle the case.  Mediation is advisable because a mediator is trained to analyze the facts without any bias and speak directly to the parties about the strengths and weaknesses of their positions.  Moreover, you are not obligated to accept any numbers discussed during a mediation, so it is essentially risk-free!

If you have questions about your situation in particular, we are happy to help guide you through the process.  We provide free consultations at (424) 235-4385.
